The Bronze Star Medal is awarded for ably assisting in a thorough reconnaissance of a bridge site on the Roer River in close proximity to the enemy. Subsequently, through his diligent efforts and able supervision of the construction crews a 254' fixed Bailey Bridge was completed well ahead of schedule, despite mortar and artillery fire directed at the site during the initial stages of construction.
