284th Morning Reports
Using Morning Report Coordinates
The 284th Morning Reports tell us many things, including the location of the men. But without the proper map, those coordinates were often pretty useless.
Period maps can be found here: WWII Map Archive.
The Morning Reports became less confusing once I experimented with something Jennifer Holik posted about on her WWII Education page.
Go here: Echo Delta MBS Coordinate Translator. Enter wF114387, select Nord de Guerre Grid, and hit convert. You'll see that we're in Krezeau.
Following along to the next Morning Report, enter wF316450 and you'll see that we end up in Lechenich, as stated on the report.
Note: this only works with these types of grids. Some Morning Reports use specific maps, and this technique will not help for those.
