HENRY THOMAS MODLIN: Newspaper Obituary and Death Notice Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - February 1, 1994 Deceased Name: HENRY THOMAS MODLIN Henry Thomas Modlin, 74, of the 5500 block of Whirlaway Road, passed away on Monday, Jan. 31, 1994, at Sentara Bayside Hospital. Mr. Modlin was a lifelong resident of the Tidewater area. He was a Methodist and an Army veteran of WWII. He was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother and a loyal friend. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. His career in food service management included positions with the Monticello & Golden Triangle Hotels and Old Dominion University. He was the original owner of Acredale Saddlery. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Grant Modlin; his son, Jerry Modlin of Houston, Texas; his daughters, Becky Tharrington of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Beth Edwards of Chesapeake; four grandsons, Thomas and Donnie Edwards and Justin and Hunter Modlin; his sister, Mary Cornella Garrenton of Portsmouth; and his brother, Carey Pete Modlin Jr. of Washington, D.C. A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 3, 1994, at 2 p.m. in Cedar Wood Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids, N.C., by the Rev. Billy Seate.
